DIY Day 23 August: crafts, lunch and the patience of a saint

On this late summer day, fifteen people enthusiastically rolled up their sleeves. The regular volunteers need less and less instruction and get to work quickly. A new volunteer helped someone with more experience clear all the young trees and shrubs in the food forest, partly with a brushcutter and partly by hand. Some trees are already bearing their first fruit.

Other handymen cleared the beech hedge of further undergrowth. Blackberry bushes were trimmed back on the slope behind the Meidoorn. At the top of the bee slope, all the grass was mowed and removed, so the flowers will have a new chance next year. The area behind the dumpster was cleaned up. Several pallets were dismantled so the wood can be used to make chairs. A pallet chair was repaired and now stands in a beautiful spot in the food forest. All unusable rubbish was taken to the environmental park, so the toilet entrance looks neat. And Piet, with the patience of a saint, laid the floor around the urinal drain.

Ted hosted the lunch for the last time with the help of Jen and Lizet, who will be hosting the lunches from now on.

In short, it was another pleasant and productive DIY day.
