Our park as an open-air cinema
On Friday evening, 22 August, our neighbourhood park hosted its first open-air cinema: a great film to watch outdoors with your neighbours. With chairs, drinks, and an extra blanket, we walked with other neighbours to the entrance on the Oude Molenweg. Tickets were scanned at the gate, and once inside, we received a bag of popcorn.
While everyone found a suitable spot and caught up, there was wonderful live jazz music from Me & Mr. Smith. Friends were happily opening a bottle of wine on a picnic blanket, and neighbours were happy to see each other again after the summer holidays. Traffic was still passing by in the background, and a heron flew slowly overhead. What a lovely appetizer that was!

The big screen was already set up in front of the stands and there was plenty of room for everyone to find a chair. After Frederik’s welcome speech, the film “Lion” started at 21:00, about the Indian boy Saroo who gets lost and ends up far from home. The film’s image and sound were excellent. We had to wipe away a few tears during the film’s final scene. Walking back to the exit along the path lit by strings of lights was magical.
A huge compliment and heartfelt thanks to the organisers of this first open-air cinema event. Here’s to many more!
