UWC puts us back on the right path
On the 14th of March, a grey Friday morning, 20 students from the UWC and two supervisors arrived at the park at 9 o’clock. The scheduled task: applying new wood chips to the paths in the food forest.
Rake, shovel and pie…!
Full of enthusiasm, these Year 7 students set to work with wheelbarrows, shovels, and rakes. In just a few hours, the large pile of wood chips dwindled, and the paths became beautifully visible.
The weather wasn’t exactly cooperative: 7 degrees celsius and grey skies. Due to the rain, the starting time for the task had already been moved forward, and as predicted, it started raining around 11 o’clock. Fortunately, the Limburgse vlaai (pie) arrived just then!

Challenge accepted!
A new challenge presented itself. Do 20 students and a few supervisors fit in our container? Yes, very easily. It was pleasantly busy and noisy. And the pie? It was completely finished.
After the pie, there were a few enthusiasts who continued working for a little while longer, and at 12 o’clock all the students left for school.
Back on the right path
It was a successful morning, and we can enjoy the result of all our efforts for the rest of the year. Because the paths are recognisable and walkable again, they have literally put us back on the right track. Thank you, UWC!
